Salvesen's Coffee Shop

Salvesen's Coffee Shop opened in Glasgow Youth Hostel on 29th May. The Coffee Shop has been created to fill a gap in the area and to open up the Youth Hostel to the general public as a valuable local resource.

In our 75th Anniversary year it seemed fitting to name the Coffee Shop after Lord Salvesen. He was SYHA's first President and marked the beginning of the Association by opening our very first hostel at Broadmeadows in 1931.

The Coffee Shop has created 2 new jobs and Kersti and Marek have been welcomed to our team. They will receive excellent training and direction from Ian Dominick, our network Catering Supervisor.

Ian, a trained Chef based at Glasgow Youth Hostel who works across the SYHA network, added:

"It is great to see the Coffee Shop opening, it is a great way to open up the hostel facilities and share this great building with the people in the area.

Please note, that every Glasgow Youth Hostel guest receives an complimentary 50 pence discount voucher for the Coffee Shop upoin arrival at the hostel!

We have sourced our ingredients locally so customers can be confident that we always have a fresh and affordable supply of seasonal produce on offer to compliment the daily menu. We also hope to offer a catering service to local businesses, providing platters for meetings and small events.

It is our hope that Salvesen's will become more than just a coffee shop. We aim to provide a venue where our visitors can mingle with local residents and business people, meet friends and relax in a comfortable and friendly atmosphere."

Judy Roxburgh, a member of SYHA's National Executive was on hand to officially open Salvesen's Coffee Shop and added:

"Salvesen's Coffee Shop will keep to the SYHA's ethos by providing quality products and services at affordable prices. Come along and see for yourself."
